What you'll be doing
1. You will be given a directional outline + some topics to research.
- This includes our 5-act story structure, notes, interviews, avatar information.
2. Write a story which makes our audience feel understood, inspired, and educated.
- Use a story structure to frame the emotional beats (we use a 5-act structure but are open to other types).
- Use metaphors and analogies to simplify scientific explanations.
- Write hooks that compete on an attention-deficit medium like YouTube WHILE matching our brand voice.
- Good grasp of pacing and tension build-up -> release -> repeat until last build-up to next video.
- Strong writing with use of contrasts, invented phrases, etc. to make information stick in viewers' minds.
- Creativity in mixing different formats (talking head, interviews, sketches, etc.) to bring message to life.
- Write while keeping in mind how the story/message can best be translated into a visual medium (e.g. B-roll shots (establishing, details, humans, action) that relieve how much needs to be explicitly said, music/sound design, motion graphics).
3. Discuss feedback, come to agreement on next round of edits, and implement them.
GOAL: publish 1 video every week.
Ideal Applicant
- An exceptional understanding of storytelling devices (see What You'll Be Doing -> 2. above).
- Hunger to be the best storyteller ever. Writing is your core passion/art.
- Experience writing story-based + educational scripts for video.
- Experience with weight loss and/or written for weight loss in past.
- Experience interviewing people to gain insight into their psychology and translate that into a narrative.
- Understanding of YouTube and the "science" of why videos perform well.
- Good at meeting deadlines (speed + quality is very important to me).
- Honest and frequent communications on deadlines, progress, script decisions, confusions, frustrations.
- Take ownership of your success end-to-end: bring up new topic ideas, storytelling ideas, question our direction, point out where editing/other parts of video production may be compromising your success.

I am willing to pay well for such a person, as you'll form an integral part of our team.

Hiring process
- I will hire and pay 3 writers to write the same 1-2 scripts.
- The winning candidate gets the next 4 scripts.
- If all scripts are high quality, on-time, and we work well together, we can discuss a retainer/long-term contract.
