Thank you for your interest in the Seven Roses Legacy Foundation Scholarship. The mission of Seven Roses Legacy Foundation (SRLF) is to empower youth to expand their cultural horizons, improve their financial literacy and seek higher education.  To that end, we provide programming geared towards advancement in those areas.  SRLF was founded in 2005 and is a 501(c)3 organization that serves as the charitable arm of Eta Nu Sigma Chapter, Brooklyn Alumnae, of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated.  The chapter provides community service, scholarship and empowerment to communities throughout Brooklyn, New York City.  Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was founded on November 12, 1922 at Butler University by seven African-American school teachers. The Sorority's undergraduate and graduate chapters, both national and international, implement various community based programs during the sorority year to ensure fulfillment of the Sorority motto, “Greater Service, Greater Progress.”

Annually, Seven Roses Legacy Foundation awards several Book Scholarships, in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $3,000 to graduating high school seniors who reside in and/or attend public and private high schools in Brooklyn and Queens, NYC.  Applicants should have a minimum 2.5 weighted GPA (based on 4.0).  Applicants must have plans to attend a 2-year or 4-year college or university, or trade school in the fall semester.  

One of our scholarships, the Kemi Guadalupe Scholarship, is so named in honor of a young lady and Rhoer Club member who overcame considerable obstacles while displaying tremendous inner strength and mental toughness throughout her eighteen years of life. Despite being diagnosed with Methylmalonic acidemia (MMA) at the age of one, having to endure a battery of tests and prolonged hospital stays, Kemi always maintained an upbeat and positive spirit.  She was a gifted poet and writer whose writings were infected with intensity and naked honesty.  She had barely scratched the surface of her literary talents before passing away on February 23, 2011.  This scholarship honors her memory and is open to graduating high school students who attend alternative high schools, are interested in pursuing careers in journalism, and have overcome considerable obstacles in order to further their education.  

The scholarship awards are primarily based upon submission of a thoughtful,  well-written essay, academic recommendations and an official transcript. These contests are open to both male and female young adults.  Non-U.S. citizens are eligible to apply.
