In this section, we'll talk about why career connected learning, in particular related to STEM, is important to students in our region. Start the section by watching this video that introduces the motivation behind career connected learning in Washington state. (8 minutes)
At the link that follows this text is an article exploring 10 concepts about STEM career awareness and perceptions. As you read, consider these 3 questions:    (1) What is "science capital" and what does it have to do with our students' career aspirations?     (2) Why should we start career education discussions early with students, before ages 10-11?    (3) The authors say, "You can never start careers awareness too early." What are some of your initial thoughts on things we can do around career education for our students?
Now, head to this link, which leads a discussion board called "Padlet," and answer each question. Feel free to comment on other people's thoughts.
