Bay Area Graduate Pathways to STEM                Student Application 2021
Thank you for your interest in the Spring 2021 Virtual Bay Area Graduate Pathways to STEM (GPS) program!

Vision Statement: The mission of the Bay Area GPS program is to equip diverse, innovative leaders with the access, tools, and skills they need to obtain an advanced engineering and science degree. Bay Area GPS is a one-day conference that takes place on February 20, 2021, where students attend informative workshops addressing the benefits of pursuing an advanced degree (both MS and PhD) while also preparing for graduate school and the application process.

Students attending the Bay Area GPS program will:

- gain access to information for applying to graduate school
- understand how graduate school can benefit their education and future goals
- learn how to prepare a graduate school application
- network with peers who will also be applying to graduate school
- partner with mentors (current graduate students) who will help with the application process

Eligibility: Any undergraduate students interested in pursuing a graduate education in STEM (we especially encourage sophomores and juniors), students who have obtained a bachelor’s degree, current master’s students, students who have obtained their master’s degree (but have not enrolled in a Ph.D. program), and those currently working in industry and want to pursue a graduate education in STEM (regardless of age) are invited to apply. Historically GPS focuses specifically on providing access and preparation to students attending Bay Area, Northern California and select Southern California universities who can contribute to a diverse student body and build a vibrant and inclusive intellectual community. Given the virtual format this year, we invite students outside of California to apply! Applicants must demonstrate a serious commitment to enrolling in a STEM master’s or Ph.D. program.

Stanford and UC Berkeley’s commitment to diversity is broadly conceived. It includes, but is not limited to:

- Underrepresented racial and ethnic minorities
- First-generation college students
- Women in fields such as natural science and engineering
- Underrepresented gender identities/sexual orientations including but not limited to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer students
- Students with disabilities
- Military Veterans
- Underrepresented religious backgrounds
- Others whose backgrounds and experiences would diversify the graduate community in STEM.
