Missoula Children's Theatre Overview
Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) is the nation’s largest touring children’s theater company, and a beloved tradition at Hillcrest. The MCT tour team arrives in their “little red truck” loaded with a set, lights, costumes, props and makeup — everything it takes to put on a play … except the cast! The team holds an open audition and casts students to perform in the production. The show is rehearsed throughout the week and two public performances are presented at the end of the week.

There are roles for students in K through 8th grade. Approximately 50-60 students will be cast in the show. There is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast, but most years MCT has been able to find a part for nearly every performer who auditioned. Assistant Directors will also be selected to aid in rehearsals throughout the week and at performances.

AUDITIONS: This is a group audition. No advance preparation is necessary, but a smile never hurts. Students wishing to audition must:
Have turned in a signed permission slip or this Google Form;
Arrive by the scheduled start time; and
Stay for the entire two-hour session.

To help us prepare for audition day, please complete this form by January 21 at 5 pm. This is especially important for younger students in after care at BACR. We will work with the BACR staff to make sure everyone makes it to and fromthe audition.

****COST: The play will cost each cast member approximately $100-125 (depending on the number of students who participate). Your child will have the opportunity to gain self-confidence, bond with students from other grades, and participate in a performance for the Hillcrest community. If the cost presents a hardship, please request a partial or full scholarship by emailing Gloria at hillcrestmct@gmail.com.  Payments can be turned in by check or Venmo and will be requested by January 26.

REHEARSALS: Rehearsals start right after the audition and take place every day after school for the rest of the week. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be distributed at the conclusion of the audition, but will be approximately as follows:*

Monday 1/22, 5:15-7:30pm
Tuesday 1/23, 3:00-7:30pm
Wednesday 1/24, 1:30-6:00pm
Thursday 1/25 03:00-7:30pm
Friday 1/26, 3:00-7:30pm
 Saturday 1/27, 1:00-6 pm (dress rehearsal and free erformance)
Younger cast members/ensemble roles are dismissed early, most days around 5:00pm.

Although not all cast members will be needed at every session, those auditioning must have a clear schedule for the entire week, and if selected, be able to attend all rehearsals and performances. Cast members scheduled for full rehearsal sessions will be asked to bring a sack dinner or snack.
