Wangari Gardens is a community hub and a small green oasis. We, as gardeners and neighbors, have the rare and beautiful opportunity to design and manage this space for ourselves. Wangari Gardens is cared for entirely by residents - you have probably noticed the hand painted signs, DIY fence and furniture. During the pandemic, spaces like Wangari Gardens have proved more important than ever.

Together, we are setting the vision for the park for the next decade and beyond!

Thanks to a ton of great feedback from neighbors like you, we have a single design scheme for the Wangari Gardens overall park, as well as initial design concepts for a Sacred Place within the park.

Over the past year, these have been developed based on the following inputs: 1) An in-depth design team analysis of the existing site, and programming opportunities and constraints based on these site conditions; 2) Aspirations and goals for the master plan derived from early meetings with the Friends of Wangari Gardens board of directors and garden volunteers; 3) The top two early design concepts developed in 2020 by landscape architecture students from the University of Maryland; and 4) Community input from an on-site workshop on 4/17/21 and subsequent online survey.

In addition to the community feedback the design team received at the second Community Design Workshop and Block Party on 5/15/21, the team is seeking additional community input by way of the following survey. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your ideas with us!
