Conference: The Hidden Face of our Clothes - Environmental Impacts
Thursday, 22.04.21 | 7:30pm

People love to spend money on clothes, some more, some less. But what does fashion cost the environment?

Each year, more than 100 billion new items of clothing are produced. Around 20% of them go unsold. According to the World Bank, the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of annual global carbon emissions. This is more than all international flights and maritime shipping combined.

Furthermore, this industry uses 93 cubic meters of water - every year. This is enough to meet the needs of 5 million people. As if this wasn’t enough, through our clothes, half a million tons of plastic microfibers are dumped into the ocean, every year.

Do you want to learn how all of this is impacting our environment and what you can do about it?

We are pleased to welcome three well-respected researchers as for a panel discussion on the environmental impacts of our clothes:

-Katia Vladimirova, Senior Research Associate, Institute of Sociological Research, University of Geneva

-Henry-Michel Cauchie, Head of the "Environmental Microbiology and Biotechnology" Research Group, LIST

-Elorri Igos, an Environmental scientist who analyzes environmental impacts related to commercial and industrial products
