NMN Adult Programming Volunteer Sign-Up

Here is the list of adult programming and descriptions to give you a sense of what you will be volunteering for! (**Please note you must be 19+ to become a volunteer for these programs**) 

Programs + Descriptions

  • Trans ID Clinic (1st Monday of every month): Helping trans+ folx with changing their name and gender markers, filling out applicable forms, applying to the NMN Trans Support Fund for application cost coverage, and giving resources/information around name and gender marker changes and next steps.
  • Legal Clinic (3rd Monday of every month) : Connecting with 2SLGBTQIPA+ community members about their legal needs and referring them to the appropriate and trusted services. Ideally the facilitator is someone with a legal or paralegal background as this is a new program.

  • Trans Women + Femmes (1st Tuesday of every month): A support and discussion group for anyone within the trans women or trans feminine umbrella. As well as a space for those who are seeking to affirm, explore or question their gender identity. 

  • Genderfluid (2nd Tuesday of every month): A support and discussion group for anyone within the non-binary, genderfluid and/or genderqueer umbrella. Androgynous gender expression is not required to attend. As well, it is a space for those who are seeking to affirm, explore or question their gender identity. 

  • Trans Men + Mascs (3rd Tuesday of every month): A support and discussion group for anyone within the trans man or trans masculine umbrella. As well as a space for those who are seeking to affirm, explore or question their gender identity. Creating a safe space for positive and healthy expressions of masculinity.

  • Bi+/Pan+ (1st Wednesday of every month): A Bisexual, Pansexual and Polysexual support group. Polysexual people make up the biggest demographic in the 2SLGBTQIPA+ community and receive the least support - so we know how valuable this space is! This group does lots of fun activities together on top of providing support and is one of our best-attended groups. Key Facilitator: Johanna Stewart.
  • Ace/Aro Space (3rd Wednesday of every month): A support and discussion space for anyone who identifies under the asexual / aromantic spectrum identities. (including grey, demi quoi, alloaro, etc) This includes anyone who is new to this community or questioning being Ace and/or Aro! If you have been waiting to meet and chill with other Ace/Aro for a while, this space is open to you!

  • BIPGM Hangout **new name TBD** (4th Wednesday of every month)A space solely for Black, Indigenous and People of the Global Majority to gather and share space. Do art, discussions, listen to music, make food, play games and so much more.

  • Craft & Chat (1st Thursday of every month): An art program to bring existing projects like embroidery, knitting, crochet, you name it! And of course, socialize. Modelled after the "stitch n' bitch" concept.

  • Book Club (2nd Thursday of every month)A discussion based group, every month we choose a book from a queer, trans or BIPOC author and the following month we discuss our thoughts on the book! Key Facilitator: Mandi Parkes.

  • Body+ (3rd Thursday of every month): A support and discussion group to talk about all things related to our bodies. Smells, hair, unrealistic beauty standards, stretch marks - you name it, we talk about it! Key Facilitator: Cait Ross.

  • 2-Spirit Tea & Social (4th Thursday of every month): A community and culture program that provides a space just for Indigenous folks to gather, our goal is provide a safe and supportive access to traditional crafts, activities and on-the-land opportunities. (Please note, this group is specifically open to Indigiqueer, Two Spirit, and any 2SLGBTQ+ identified and/or allied Indigenous folks only.)
  • Coffee Dates (1st Friday of every month)Our coffee dates are often a social gathering to meet like-minded folks and talk about anything we want! Often hosted at Starbucks as they're open late, but can be hosted at our adult centre or a coffee shop downtown as well.

  • Movie Club (4th Friday of every month): A discussion based group, every month we watch a movie and afterward discuss our thoughts and analyze the movie.
