Thank you to all of our families for supporting your child and the teachers during this start to the 2020-2021 school year. We recognize that this has not been easy for families or staff members. However, as always, the New Kent community and schools rose to the challenge.
The school board is planning for the return of our Kindergarten and 1st grade to in-person instruction. In order to assist with planning and determining the appropriate time for returning students, the school division is seeking information from parents about whether or not they would like for their child(ren) to begin receiving instruction in-person.
New Kent County Public Schools will utilize the following metrics to inform when we are able bring each cohort back for in-person instruction.
- New Kent County and Regional Health Metrics to include the number of new cases and percentage of positive
tests during the last 14 days.
- Adequate staffing for student learning
- Number of students choosing in person learning
- Health of our current students and staff in our schools
Please use this form to indicate your intent for your child to receive instruction in-person or virtual. The data from this survey will be utilized to determine when the Kindergarten and 1st grade students will be able to return.
In order to assist you in making the best decision for your student, we want to make sure you are fully aware of the details associated with the return. Please make sure you have reviewed the information in the announcement at the following address:
http://bit.ly/10-6UpdateThe school board will discuss and vote on this plan at the October 19th work session. Following the school board's decision, your child's school will communicate with you about the next steps.
We ask that parents complete the survey by October 12th at 5:00 pm to provide adequate planning time for school staff.
