Too many people in our community cannot afford safe and stable housing in Chapel Hill. The housing crisis is worsening due to the deficit of available units and skyrocketing costs for both rentals and homeownership. In response, the Town Council over the past few years has prioritized high-impact investments and strategies that promote the creation and preservation of affordable housing.
Now, the Orange County Affordable Housing Coalition (OCAHC) is calling on Town Council to prioritize two key items: 1) issuing a $50 million affordable housing bond referendum on the fall 2024 ballot, and 2) dedicating the equivalent of two cents on the property tax rate for affordable housing in the FY25 budget.
Please join us in holding Town Council accountable to its promises to create and preserve more affordable housing for our community!
