Outline
The intergroup on Poverty and Human Rights is a meeting space for MEPs who want to draw the attention of European policy makers to the importance and urgency to fight against poverty. When people are condemned to live in poverty, human dignity is threatened and fundamental rights are violated, which is not acceptable.
The Intergroup aims to take into account the experiences of people living in poverty, to put their concerns on the European political agenda, to debate on policy and proposals and to mobilise various actors to make the fight against poverty a priority, in line with SDG#1 End poverty in all its forms everywhere.
To this end, the Intergroup shall contribute to legislative proposals aimed at safeguarding the dignity of the most disadvantaged. Amendments to texts and reports are regularly proposed. Every year an event is also organised on 17 October, the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
Every one should live one day in a democratic Europe that leaves no one behind.
