Why did Singapore mark the Bicentennial of Raffles' landing on the island?

Alfian Sa'at's play "Merdeka / 獨立 / சுதந்திரம்" explores the history of colonial rule, overlooked episodes of trauma, anticolonial resistance, as well as the difficulties of getting rid of its hold on our minds.

This webinar proposes the writing of a Merdeka (independence) history that will deepen the understanding of our past, and progress towards a more open and inclusive future.
