VOLUME FOUR * THE BIG FLATTENING *
Thank you so much for contributing to this project! This will be so good.

The Basics:
Please submit by Sunday, June 7.
Anyone who is a current student or alum of NEC is welcome to submit.
Ideally, your submission is a recording that hasn’t been previously released, and is under 7 minutes long (unless duration is an important aspect of the piece). You can submit a sample or section of a larger work.
Submissions should be originals, recompositions, or work that is in the public domain (to avoid copyright problems).
They may be of high or low sound quality and may be anything you feel like sharing right now!
All proceeds will go towards grassroots coronavirus relief in Boston.

More info about the project:

* THE BIG FLATTENING * is a series of compilations of music by NEC students & alumni. This is a fundraiser – 100% of the proceeds will go towards mutual aid coronavirus relief organizations across Boston.

These mutual aid networks are truly grassroots efforts - not receiving formal funding, run by-and-for the people they serve, sprouting out of relationships between neighbors donating their resources and skills to support each other. Funds donated to the mutual aid networks will then be available for people requesting financial assistance, or will be put towards the purchase of food and supplies to be distributed directly in those neighborhoods.

Here are links to the mutual aid groups:

The goal of this compilation series is for students and alumni to share what they've been working on with each other while simultaneously generating funds to give back to communities in Boston. It is now known that low-income communities of color are hardest hit by coronavirus (tinyurl.com/ya4rd28x). These are often the same communities that are routinely priced out of their neighborhoods by the process of gentrification. We recognize that transient student populations are part of this process of displacement, and we can start to give back by leveraging our networks of friends and family to redistribute wealth to people most impacted by this horrible situation. It is a small gesture of solidarity that while this virus does not discriminate, not everyone is equally impacted by it- so let's share what we love to do while raising funds for people who need it.

This is not an official NEC project! This is by-and-for NEC students and alumni.

Your Music!:
Anyone who is or has been a student of NEC is welcome to submit a track (people can appear in multiple tracks if they are playing in multiple bands or ensembles). Ideally, your submissions will be recordings that you haven’t already released or published, because new music will create more draw from people who already listen to your music. But! If you don’t have a new recording to share, that is okay—you can still submit something that’s already out there. Pieces should generally be under 7 minutes, unless duration is a primary focus of the piece- if you have something longer, you could submit a sample or a section of the piece. They also do not have to be professionally recorded, mixed or mastered by any means. They can be original works, improvisations, symphonies, solo pieces, something you just started working on... There is no theme to the pieces aside from them all being awesome tracks that NEC musicians would love to share!

Please feel free to share this information with any current and former students you know. If you have any questions or comments or if you want to help put this together feel free to send an email at studentmusicfundraiser@gmail.com !

Hope you all are doing as well as you can be.
