Approximately 18 billion pounds of plastic waste flows into
the world’s oceans

Organizing a conference related to the Abidjan Convention in
Cameroon would be an opportunity for the country to showcase its
efforts in implementing the convention's provisions and also to learn
from the experiences of other member countries. Through this conference, ASCOA aims at bringing together policymakers, scientists, researchers, civil
society organizations, and other stakeholders to share knowledge,
experiences, and best practices related to the sustainable management and
protection of
marine and coastal environments. The conference will focus on a variety of topics related to
the Abidjan Convention such as pollution prevention and control, marine
biodiversity conservation, integrated coastal zone management, and
climate change adaptation
and mitigation measures.
