Creative Connection (Previously known as "COVID Performers") is a student volunteer initiative that pairs students with residents of long-term care homes, retirement homes and hospitals across Canada to give virtual live musical/art performances and social engagement.
This initiative was initially founded to reduce increased social isolation among isolated patients and/or older adults of healthcare institutions as a result of social distancing measures of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, due to demand, our mission has expanded to continue beyond the pandemic to make social engagement more accessible and frequent through a virtual medium.
These virtual visits can include playing live music performances, hosting a virtual paint night, having conversation in different languages (e.g. Korean, Portuguese) etc. and can be anywhere from 15 min to an hour and are either in a 1-on-1 resident:performer format or small group concert-style. We are currently running this program with 16 institutions across Canada including in Hamilton, Ottawa, Kingston, Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and more.
