The Kentucky Board of Education Priority Award, aims to honor a person or organization who has done outstanding work in a strategic priority area of the Board’s choosing.
One of the most notable education challenges Kentucky continues to face is achievement gap closure as necessary for the success of our children and state. This award seeks to recognize a teacher, administrator, school board or council, business or community member whose work has made significant gains in closing the achievement gap in his or her school, district or community.
Criteria for the award includes: creation of innovative practices within a school or district that erase traditional barriers that may have stood in the way of student achievement; demonstration of measurable success in student growth in a subgroup of students (i.e. low income, students of color and students with special needs); and demonstration of significant progress of assessment scores of school(s) affiliated with the nominee, particularly in mathematics and reading, among all student groups.
