Drama/Musical Theater
In an Introduction to Drama and Musical Theater, students will explore the world around them, gain strong speaking skills and begin to understand others through character study, performance, and acting skills. The drama and musical theater class in middle school will expand the skills already taught and challenged the students to take new risks, using their imaginations to devise new pieces of theatre through scene studies and playwriting. Students will have the opportunity to learn about auditioning, improve their stage skills through improvisation games, scene work and character study, and audition for shows. In addition, students will learn costuming skills, set design and have several opportunities for performance.  We will work collaboratively with peers to complete creative projects. Grades will be based on the students understanding of the standards and the effort they make in the class. Performance participation is required.

Essential Dance
COURSE DESCRIPTION This course is designed to give students the opportunity to learn the beginning skills of dance while improving their techniques, poise, self-confidence, and creative ability. A variety of dance styles such as modern, lyrical, jazz, musical theater, tap dance, and ballet will be taught. The students will have the opportunity to choreograph their own work based in each genre.
Through their own dance compositions, and expressions students explore the creative process, translating ideas, thoughts, and feelings into original pieces of choreography and then performing their work for others.  The vocabulary of dance includes the basic elements of time, space, and force or energy. Students grow in understanding dance and its elements through direct experience.

HIP HOP DANCE:
Hip hop dance classes start with a thorough warm up, then shifts to strengthening the core muscles necessary for body control and proper technique. The warm up is designed to get your heart pumping for the purpose of exercise, health, and fitness which requires hard work, focus, and determination.

Hip Hop dance has become one of the most well-known and recognized dance forms in the world.
