DOGS ARE EXPENSIVE! Before starting the questionnaire, have you considered the cost of acquiring and raising a dog through its first year? Along with the initial cost of the puppy there will be; shipping fees if out of town $200- 500; initial veterinary check-up plus booster vaccinations and heartworm preventive can cost $200-$400 or more; obedience class fees range from $100-$200 per 6-8 week session; crates cost $70-l00; dog food costs $30-60 per month; leashes, collars, bowls, toys add up quickly, too).
Dogs, like people, sometimes get sick or have injuries. Our contract stipulates that as a breeder we are willing to offer a replacement puppy for hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia and/or inherited epilepsy. Are you prepared to pay hundreds or even thousands of dollars to return your dog to normal health should your dog require it?
Puppies and dogs require a tremendous amount of time. Are you prepared to commit the time and effort it takes to raise a happy, healthy puppy and provide for its exercise and training needs for the next 12-13 years?
You will be REQUIRED, by contract, to have your dog’s hips and elbows x-rayed at the age of 24-26 months OFA evaluation. Are you prepared to pay the total cost needed to have x-rays taken by a vet and evaluated by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA).
