2021 Covenant Church Nomination Form
Each year we prayerfully consider who should be asked to serve in some of the important roles at Covenant Christian Community Church. The men and women who serve in these roles should be men and women of character, commitment, and competency.

The chief biblical texts that develop the requirements of church leaders are: 1 Timothy 3:1-13, 2 Timothy 2:1-13, Titus 1:5-9, and Acts 6:1-6. Included in these texts we can see the following:

Character. Are they taking on the character of Jesus? Are the potential leaders moving toward greater and greater Christ-likeness? Do they exhibit self-control, hospitality, gentleness (control of anger), a quest for holiness, temperance? Is there evidence of dying to the love of money, to manipulation, to always having it one's own way?

Commitment. Are they committed to Jesus? Are they committed to his church as a kingdom people (not primarily as an institution)? Are they committed to the Covenant Church family in such a way that they would be a good fit to lead like Jesus among us?

Competency. Do they possess the natural and spiritual gifts to serve in a capable way that reflects Jesus? Are they able to think clearly, communicate with grace, and serve with love? Do they have the strength to make decisions, to stand by them when necessary even when criticized, and to change their mind when they should?

Please see the roles needed below and let us know who, from our Covenant Family, you would nominate to serve us in these ways. You may nominate as many people as you like for each position. The nomination team will prayerfully consider each nominee and ask those who they feel would be the best fit.

Deacons - Deacons are charged to work alongside the pastor in the care of the congregation. They are also charged with watching out for the care of the pastor and staff. The workload is one short meeting per month plus making calls and visits as needed during the month. We could nominate up to two deacons to serve for two-year terms AND three deacons to serve for three-year terms.
Congregational Representative Board Members - Board members are charged to work alongside the pastor and staff to oversee the finances and work of the church. Board members are also the legal directors of the registered charity that is Covenant Christian Community Church. They listen to and work on behalf of the church family to establish and monitor budgets, approve exceptional spending, and ensure legal compliance - all within a context that recognizes that this legal work is secondary to work of the church as a kingdom family sharing the good news of Jesus in our world. Three of these board members are designated as "Congregational Representatives" and affirmed by the congregation. We need to nominate one congregational representative board member for a two-year term AND one congregational representative board member for a three-year term.
Board Secretary - The board secretary is appointed by the board to serve as a full board member with the specific tasks of taking minutes and ensuring proper communication on behalf of the board. The nominating committee needs to recommend one person as the board secretary for a three-year term.
Maintenance Chair - The maintenance chair is appointed by the board to serve as the primary overseer of our facilities and property. This role is also a full board member. The nominating committee needs to recommend one person as the maintenance chair for a three-year term.
Be In Christ Church of Canada Congregational Representative - The BIC Canada Congregational Representative is affirmed by the congregation to attend and vote at the BIC Canada annual meeting on April 24, 2001.
Nomination Team Member - The nominating team works on behalf of the congregation and the board to recommend people to the board for various positions each year. Two of the nomination team members are affirmed by the congregation each year for a one year term.
