Young Artist Competition Guidelines:
ELIGIBILITY
Participants must be in 11th grade or younger at the time of their audition. Open to public, private, and home school students.
Participants must reside in Jackson County, Missouri.
Participant must audition on one of the following instruments: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, percussion, violin, viola, cello, bass, or harp.
Participant must not have previously won first place in this competition.
MUSIC
Performances must include one movement from a concerto or concerto-type composition, which has been approved by the conductor of the Heritage Philharmonic.
Selections must have an orchestral accompaniment available for purchase or rental in the United States.
Participants must furnish their own pianist for accompaniment at the competition.
The time limit will be 15 minutes.
Participants must furnish music for the judges.
DEADLINE
Entries must be submitted no later than 11:59 p.m. on May 15, 2024.
FEE
A nonrefundable processing fee of $25.00 must accompany each entry.
AUDITION
The competition will be held at First United Methodist Church-Blue Springs, 301 SW Woods Chapel Road, Blue Springs, MO 64015 on Saturday, May 18, 2024, between 2 and 5 p.m. A panel of professional musicians will judge the competition. Auditions are not blind, and they are not open to the public.
NOTIFICATIONS & EXPECTATIONS
Participants will be notified of the competition results by mail or e-mail.
The participant with the highest score will be selected as the First-Place winner of this competition and will perform as soloist with the Heritage Philharmonic in the fall of the 2024-2025 season.
The First-Place winner will be notified of the Heritage Philharmonic rehearsal and performance schedule as soon as possible.
The First-Place winner must be available for the performance (Saturday in October at 7 p.m.), dress rehearsal (Friday before at 7:30 p.m.) and for all rehearsals as requested (Thursdays at 7:30 p.m.) by the music director.
The Heritage Philharmonic reserves the right to not award any or all of the winners if the judges deem the musical level unacceptable.
AWARDS
The First-Place winner will receive an award of $500 after his or her performance with the orchestra.
The Second-Place winner will receive $300 presented at the same concert.
The Third-Place winner will receive $200 presented at the same concert.
Participants must be in attendance to receive each prize.
