Cybersecurity classes at Hacker Lab are sustained by members of the community.   Here is the Job Description for a Teaching Assistant (TA) for the 30-day security challenge (online version).  If you would like to help teach this class in the future, please fill in the details and we will reach out within 24 hours.

Description:

The classroom TA helps to control the cadence of the class and acts as the eyes and ears of the instructor while the main content is being presented. They will quickly research and/or set up scenarios in the background in direct response to student questions.  For example, if a student asks if something applies to both Apple and Android devices, the TA may quickly check offline and report the answer at the next opportune moment.  They will channel the voice of the students and assist in the Socratic portions of the class, e.g. “Zach had a question about xyz, does that also apply in this situation?”

Minimum Qualifications:

Has taken the full 30-day security challenge, including being fully transitioned to the use of a password manager
Typically has 1-2 years of professional experience in a technical role


Preferred Qualifications:

Has taught classes in the past
Conferencing audio/video setup with clear lighting, crisp sound (with minimal background noise), and decent bandwidth


Job Requirements:

Will be expected to share video for the majority of class time
Assist the instructor with mute functions during classroom time
Helping students get situated in the class, troubleshooting technical issues as needed
Performing classroom announcements
Answering chatroom questions during content presentation
Monitoring class progress and time-keeping (e.g. ensuring time for breaks)
Monitoring student video for signs of engagement and relaying details to instructor
Facilitating permissions on classroom calls as needed
