Overview Information: NewGen Peacebuilders - Sonoma County, Spring 2020
NewGen Peacebuilders is an award-winning peace education, training and mentoring program that equips people to BUILD PEACE and REPEAT THE PEACE in their communities, countries and the world. NewGen Peacebuilders alumni have received a wide variety of awards and scholarships in recognition of exciting team action peace projects that they have completed.

NewGen Peacebuilders trains and equips young people to:
-Truly understand drivers of conflict and peace
-Imagine innovative solutions that create change
-Take action to address issues affecting a community or communities

The result is empowered young people equipped to resolve conflict and build bridges for the rest of their lives.

The NewGen Peacebuilders - Sonoma County, Spring 2020 program will accept 40 students (grades 9-12 in the 2019-20 academic year) from public, private and charter schools across Santa Rosa, Petaluma, Ronhert Park-Cotati, Sebastopol and Wisdor.

The program spans 12 weeks over the course of the Spring 2020 semester and is delivered as an extracurricular activity.

All selected applicants receive a scholarship to cover the cost of their participation in the program, allowing them to obtain NewGen Peacebuilders certification at NO COST to individual students or schools. Special thanks to Rotary District 5130, the Rotary Club of Santa Rosa and other local Rotary Clubs for this support.

Program Schedule: NewGen Peacebuilders - Sonoma County, Spring 2020
Applicants should be aware of the following key dates and activities (attendance/participation in all of these activities is required to receive official NewGen Peacebuilders certification).

IMMERSION WORKSHOP I (Two-Days):
Friday, January 10, 8:00am-3:00pm*
Saturday, January 11, 9:00am-4:00pm
Immersion Workshops require in-person attendance from all accepted students and are delivered by trained NGP facilitators.
*Participants receive an excused absence from school.

WEEKLY VIRTUAL MEETINGS with GUEST SPEAKERS
January 13 - February 21
VIRTUAL conversations feature guest remarks and Q&A with local, national and international peacebuilders.
Calls take place once a week in the evening for one hour each.
Participants use Zoom online meeting software to participate in these VIRTUAL conversations.
Before each call, participants complete a short pre-read or watch a short video.
After each call, participants submit a short written reflection.

IMMERSION WORKSHOP II (Two Days):

Saturday, January 25, 9:00am-4:00pm

IMMERSION WORKSHOP III (One Day):
Saturday, February 22, 9:00am-4:00pm
Immersion Workshops require in-person attendance from all accepted students and are delivered by trained NGP facilitators.

PEACE PROJECTS:
Feruary 23 - April 24
Participants are coached and mentored to design and implement team action peace projects.
Commitment: 2-3 hours each week.

Public presentation of peace project results and closing celebration for family, friends and community members
