Be a witness to history!  Black Lives Matter Movement
History isn't just what happened before we were born - we are living it today! Others will look back and learn from us - they will be better equipped to understand where they are by knowing where we had been. It is important to record Trenton's present history so that our present community is not forgotten.

The Trentoniana Department of the Trenton Free Public Library wants to record your witness to history during the Black Lives Matter Movement. Tell us what you are experiencing - your feelings, what you are seeing around you, what you are doing, and what effect this is having on you, your family and your neighbors. Please answer those questions you wish to answer, in any form you feel comfortable whether as direct text answers to the questions or as poetry, artwork, photographs, or something else. We also want to see images of what is happening around you, in your home, in your community. If you have images to share, please label them with location and date and send as an attachment to trentoniana1906@gmail.com . Feel free to come back in a few weeks or months and record your experiences again.

We will preserve these responses in our archives and, with your permission, share them now and in the future. Thank you for participating!

What were your thoughts when you first learned of George Floyd's death? Was it through the regular news outlets or via social media?
Did you participate in any marches, such as the one that occurred in Trenton during the day on May 31, 2020? What were your thoughts about the marches/protests, either ones that you participated in or watched on television?
How did you learn of the unrest that occurred in downtown Trenton later in the evening on May 31, 2020? Did it effect you directly (business owner, street where you lived, etc.)? What were your thoughts and how did you feel about what was happening?
Were you a resident of Trenton during the unrest that occurred in the city on April 9, 1968? If so, how was that different or similar to May 31, 2020?
What have you noticed has changed in your community since the recent unrest (both in Trenton and in the country)? What has surprised you most?
What is the worst thing about this? Do you think there is good in what has happened, such as making people more aware of issues? Is there more common ground with neighbors or has the divide widened?
Do you think there a solution? What would be your advice?
Is there anything else you would like to add that hasn't already been asked above?
If you have images to share, please label them with location and date and send as an attachment to trentoniana1906@gmail.com
