Gr 6 Educational Tour to Konka  
Dear Parents

The Grade 6 learners have the opportunity to go on a three day trip to Konka.
The tour to Konka is an extension of the curriculum that we follow.
Konka is about two hours drive on the N4 near Rustenburg.
Konka is situated in the Magaliesburg mountains, on the banks of a tranquil river.
This splendid game farm stretches some 249 hectares, and hosts a variety of activities.

Date : 24 November to 22 November 2021
Place : Konka
Departure Time : 08:00 on 24 November 2021
Food : Three meals per day provided by venue. The first meal provided at the venue will be lunch.
Transport : Semi-Luxury Bus
Back at School : 12:00 on 26 November 2021
Cost : Depending on the numbers, R 1 950-00 will be added to your account at the end of October.

Covid – 19 Protocol
1. A Covid Rapid Test will be done on Tuesday, 23 November.
2. The results of the specific test will be documented to be handed in at each venue.
3. Learners will not be seated directly next to one another in a bus, thus leaving a seat open between learners while traveling to the specific venue.
4. On arrival each camp attendee will be screened and sanitized.
5. This will be documented in the Covid 19 attendance register.
6. Thereafter screening will take place every morning.
7. If a high temperature is discovered in staff/learners that person will be placed in a “Cool down Room” where they will be screened every 20 min.
8. If the temperature remains high for an hour it is advised that the person undergo a Covid Rapid Test at R300-00 per test.
9. If tested positive, that person must stay in isolation/leave camp/and seek medical care.
10. This will be discussed with the Medic on tour as well as the Parent/Guardian of the learner.
11. Each member of staff at the specific venue are screened every morning and documented.
12. Masks to be worn in all public facilities on the property by staff and learners.
13. Sanitizing stations in front of Dining Halls and Dorms.
14. NO Mask no entry policy will be adhered to at any of the buildings.
15. Buildings to be sanitized daily with sanitizing blower.
16. Accommodation facilities to be booked at 50% capacity as per regulations.
17. Learners/staff to be seated at 50 % capacity in the dining halls and 50% at each table.
18. Learners/staff must wear masks when at the serving station.
19. Social distancing must be applied by every individual.
20.  It remains the responsibility of every individual to keep themselves and other learners/staff safe.

Cancelation Policy:
If a learner withdraws from any camp due to Covid (even if they are isolating due to close contact), the necessary evidence must be submitted to Mr Lambrechts & Mr Swanepoel. Individual cases with the necessary valid evidence will be dealt with on merit.

Need to bring along:
Bible
Sleeping bag and pillow
Old clothes (Warm clothes)
Walking shoes
Torch
Toiletries and Suntan lotion
Pen and paper
Swimming costume and towel
Pocket Money – There will be a tuck shop.  
        Please place the money in a plastic bag. Write your child’s name on the bag.
Personal Medication - Place your child’s medication in a plastic bag and write all the necessary instructions on it. The teachers will take it in and hand out as indicated.  

Facilities:
Each camp has excellent facilities.
The learners sleep in dormitory type rooms which house between 10 and 20 people.
The learners sleep on steel beds which all have mattresses on them.  
Each room is equipped with its own ablutions.  
There is electricity in all rooms.
Facilitators sleep close to the children’s rooms.  
Facilitators do duty in shifts to ensure that the learners are happy and safe at all times.  
The teacher’s accommodation is close to that of the learners to assist with discipline and control.  

Facilitators:
Each camp has qualified facilitators who are responsible for the learners’ well being.  
The learners are divided into groups of 10 – 15 learners.  
Each group has its own facilitator who cares for his/her specific group throughout the camp.  
The facilitator is specifically trained in conflict management, leadership identification and counselling.  
The facilitator takes care of each child’s individual needs.  
The teachers are there to assist the facilitators with supervision and discipline.
The teachers are requested not to interfere during activities as each situation leads to new discoveries.  Teachers will only get involved if requested to do so.  

Activities:
The activities for each camp are age appropriate.  
Learners learn to work as a team, communication skills, conflict management and problem solving.  
The learners experience self-discovery on these camps.  
The teachers also have the opportunity to observe and get to know the learners on a completely different level.
Each programme is discussed with us until we are satisfied with the curriculum.  
The learners also learn about ecology and the history of the area.  
This includes plants, animals, river studies and rock formations.  
The tours integrate the Science, Geography, History and Life Orientation syllabi.  

Food:
All food is prepared on site at the camp.  
A balanced diet is provided which includes:  breakfast, lunch and dinner, sometimes snacks are offered in between.  
We have already compiled a list of special requests and have given it to the camps.  
Each learner is guaranteed only the best food during his/her stay.  
A tuck shop is also available for treats.  

Cell phones and electronic equipment:
NO CELL PHONES may be taken on tour.  The camp sites do not have reception and phones are not necessary.  
Learners’ phones will be placed in the safe at school before we depart.  
No iPods or MP3 players are permitted.  
Parents will be contacted once each group arrives safely and will be updated as to the learners’ progress throughout the week.

Aims:
The aims of these tours are varied.
Tours provide each learner with the opportunity to get to know himself/herself in different situations.  
The learners are provided with the opportunity to get to know each other.  
They develop various skills.
They learn more about a specific area.
They are provided with an opportunity to break away from the family unit and enjoy themselves.  
Mom and Dad also have the opportunity to spend some quality time together without the children.  

Paramedics:
A Paramedic will accompany all grades going on tour.
Each Paramedic is well qualified in “Intermediate Life Support”.
Each learner is responsible for his/her own chronic medication.
Each of the paramedics will take the following equipment with on tour:
1 Small portable Oxygen cylinder
Trauma bag as specified by ILS-protocol
AED – 1 per Paramedic
Full spinal board with accessories.
All Paramedics is registered at the “Health Professions Council of South Africa”.
