Deaf Legacy Project
Are you a deaf student attending a HBCU? Are you ready interested in connecting with college students like you?

Register for the Deaf Legacy Project Today! This is a research project, led by Dr. Lissa Rameriz-Stapelton, Associate Professor, at California State University Northridge to capture deaf student experiences at HBCUs.

We are recruiting deaf students currently enrolled at a HBCU, who identifies as deaf, deafblind, hard of hearing, or has a hearing loss to participate in the research cohort. In the Spring 2023 semester (January -May) Student participants will:
  • Participate in monthly cohort meetings and 2 interviews 

  • Create a photo documentary of their HBCU experience

  • Participate in advocacy & leadership trainings

  • Attend the first Black Deaf Studies Conference at Gallaudet University

Upon completion of the Deaf Legacy Project, students will receive a verification credential documenting their participation in the project.

This is an IRB approved research project led by Dr. Rameriz-Stapelton at CSUN supported by the National Deaf Center on Postsecondary Outcomes to document deaf student enrollment, persistence, and completion of their education at HBCUs.
