It goes without saying that COVID has had a significant impact on our camping plans for the past year, and it continues into 2021.
At present, Pack 103 is considering a possible summer camp opportunity at Camp Kingsley (Ava, NY - approx. 3 hour drive, one way). Our local camp (Tri-Mount) will not be operating this summer, nor will the Hudson Valley Council camps for Cub Resident camp.
Here are the details about the possibility of attending Kingsley this summer:
Fees:
$350 / scout ($325 for a second sibling scout)
$125 / adult
Obviously scouts will be required to wear masks when in a social environment, and maintain distancing when possible. There will be a temperature check for everyone upon arrival to camp, and all campers (including adults) will be required to undergo daily temperature checks. Carpooling may not be an option this year, it's too soon to tell if BSA will lift that restriction.
We will be assigned a campsite for our unit, and our activities will be done as a unit for the entire week. Normally, each den would have a den-specific agenda (e.g. all the Wolves in camp go to waterfront to work on Wolf advancement), but this year, the activities will be more generic as everyone in the Pack (Tigers -> Webelos) will be doing the same activities at the same time. Some of these activities will be performed in the campsite (Nature/Crafts) along with our flag ceremonies and campfires as there will be no group gatherings at camp. Other select activities we will be able to leave the campsite for, such as waterfront and shooting sports.
Food this year is planned to be in the dining hall, but will be delivered in shifts to reduce capacity. Lunch will be grab+go, meaning the scouts will receive a bag lunch, and have to find someplace outdoors to eat. There will also be meals which will need to be cooked in camp (at least one).
Here's what we don't know:
* How camp will handle storms (the traditional practice is to go to the closest structure to wade out the storm), but this may exceed COVID capacities.
* If there will or will not be an AOL overnight outpost program.
* Sleeping arrangements. There may be a requirement to sleep one family unit per leanto or tent, or there may be a need to provide your own tents.
Should we choose to go, there are 3 options for 5-day programs (all Wed. -> Sun):
* July 14-18
* July 21-25
* July 28 - Aug. 1
