Did you know? The Ambry Candle indicates the presence of a consecrated host in the Ambry (the wooden cabinet on the wall). It is lit continually throughout the year. When the sacrament is moved to the "Garden of repose" on Maundy Thursday evening, the Ambry is empty through Good Friday until the Easter Vigil on Saturday evening or Sunday Morning - the first Easter Eucharist. The lit candle stays with the Sacrament Thursday evening until it is consumed on Good Friday, which is the one day of the year that a priest cannot consecrate.
