Real Life Families Board of Directors Contract 2022
BOARD MEMBER Expectations/Responsibilities:
1. EDUCATION & DUE DILIGENCE---I will stay informed and updated of Real Life Families’ work, programs and ggimpact by:
o Monitoring social media communications, web updates, e-
newsletters, media, and other written and online communications
and by engaging as appropriate with staff and programs.
o Thoroughly preparing for meetings and reading all necessary board
materials, emails, notes, etc. prior to meetings.
o Asking questions and requesting information and training when
needed and necessary.
o Working in good faith with staff and other board members as
partners towards achievement of our goals.
o Praying for God’s direction and wisdom for our organization (as you
feel led).
2. DECISION-MAKING----I will participate in and take responsibility for making timely and thoughtful
decisions on issues, policies, and other board matters.
o Acting in the best interest of Real Life Families.
o Communicating and making decisions via text or email as necessary.
o Excusing myself from discussions and votes where I have a conflict of
interest.
o Having a positive attitude and team approach to problem-solving and
conflict resolution.
3. OUTREACH---I will interpret, support, and broadcast Real Life Families’ work and values to
the community and fairly and proudly represent Real Life Families
throughout our community (online and in-person) and other areas we serve.
o Proactively acting as a spokesperson and ambassador for our mission
whenever possible.
o Actively engaging with and use social media to promote Real Life
Families’ work as much as I am able.
o Sharing Real Life Families’ print and electronic outreach tools
(brochures, e-newsletters, social media posts, etc.) by distributing
these materials to a variety of contacts---individuals (including those
in need), businesses, organizations, elected officials, civic leaders,
social service and collaborative partners, etc.
4. ATTENDANCE---I will attend at least 75% of board meetings, committee meetings, and
special events as well as two classes/parenting seminars.
o Understanding that Real Life Families encourages my relationship
with God and family first.
o Using the special gifts, talents, passions, etc. God has given me and
having a willingness to serve wherever I am needed.
o Serving on at least one team and support my team on their goals.
o Serving the families in my community and to further the mission of Real Life
Families.
o Notifying the appropriate coordinators and leaders in a timely fashion
in an event I cannot attend.
o Finding ways to participate and support Real Life Families’ goals and
mission even when I am unable to attend.
5. FUNDRAISING---I will assist Real Life Families in raising funds to support their mission in a
variety of ways.
o Making personal financial contributions at a level meaningful to me.
o Actively participating in fundraising activities.
o Providing names of appropriate contacts for our mailing and email
list.
o Forwarding Real Life Families’ fundraising e-newsletters to friends
and family as appropriate.
o Engaging on social media to broadcast and support Real Life Families
efforts to raise funds.
o Attending fundraising and community events to assist in cultivation of
new supporters.
o Contacting community leaders and organizations to expand our reach
and effectiveness.
6. PERFORMANCE REVIEW
* If I don’t fulfill these commitments to the organization, I will expect Board
President to call me and discuss my responsibilities with me.
*Every six months, the President will review my work while giving me an
opportunity to show improvement as well as provide feedback.
REAL LIFE FAMILIES Expectations/Responsibilities:
*Serving the families in our community to the best of our ability.
*Without request, presenting quarterly reports and an update of the
organizational activities.
*Offering me opportunities to discuss with the Executive Director and the
Board President about Real Life Families’ programs, goals, activities, and
status; additionally, I can request such opportunities.
*Helping me perform my duties well by keeping me informed about issues in
the industry and field of work, and by offering opportunities for professional
development as a board member.
*Responding honestly and in a timely manner to questions I feel are necessary
to carry out my fiscal, legal, and moral responsibilities to Real Life Families
and working with me towards achieving our goals.
*Giving me full permission to call on the board president and executive
director to discuss the organization’s responsibilities to me if I feel Real Life
Families does not fulfill its commitments to me.
