Ride leaders and sweeps are essential to the success of any ride series as the allow us to welcome riders of all abilities and fitness levels.
You do not need to be an expert rider to lead a ride! The best ride leaders are welcoming, prepared and patient. Leading rides is also a great way to gain confidence in both your leadership and riding abilities.
The Women's MTB Ride Series is run in partnership with the New England Mountain Association (NEMBA) Blackstone Valley Chapter. By signing up to be a leader or sweep, riders understand they are ambassadors for NEMBA, STBG and mountain biking in general. Riders will be required to complete NEMBA's ride waiver.
Leaders agree to commit to a ride schedule which will be set ahead of time. If changes need to be made to the schedule (because life happens), leaders will give as much notice as possible to give time to find replacement leaders.
Leaders and sweeps will be provided with the opportunity to attend a ride and training session about trailside emergencies on Wednesday, May 25 from 5:30pm – 7:30pm at Steve the Bike Guy. Ride leaders and sweeps will also receive:
• Supplies to fix a flat
• Discount on Garmin cycling computers (to help you lead the way)
• A t-shirt (maybe, still working on this one)
We ask ride leaders also carry a basic first aid kit and phone for communicating emergencies.
