An architect is contacted by a good friend who is a developer. This friend requests the architect begin work on a new office commission directly across from the street from another project the architect is already working on. At first, the architect was pleased to potentially work on two buildings so close to one another. However, it was later disclosed that the new building would be for the direct competitor of their current client.

Which of the following rules and ethical standards from the AIA’s 2020 Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct should be consulted before the architect accepts or turns down the new commission?
