Are you someone who loves the outdoors? Trying to see more of the Shenandoah Valley? Are you interested in learning about the realities of conservation work? Valley Conservation Council (VCC) is non-profit land trust that is looking for interested volunteers for 2023 to join our Land Protection Specialist on the annual surveying visits of the conservation easements we hold! You will be provided with training on how conservation easements and land trusts work and how we protect private lands in Virginia. You will serve as an extra set of eyes to help survey the easements we hold, all while lending your unique perspective to both landowners and VCC. This is also an opportunity to visit privately owned and protected land throughout the Shenandoah Valley.
Since VCC follows the standards of the National Land Trust Alliance (LTA), we conduct annual visits of all our easements each calendar year. These annual visits ensure that VCC is upholding our commitment as a land trust and that the conservation values of the properties we hold easements on continue to stay protected. This process involves traveling throughout our 11 county service region within the Shenandoah Valley from Frederick County down to Botetourt County. This often includes extended time outdoors in variable environments and weather conditions.
Please help us gauge general interest by filling
out the survey below. We will contact you with a more concrete position
description and more details in the coming months! We appreciate your time and responses and will use them to help shape our future monitoring schedule.
To join annual monitoring visits, volunteers will need to have availability Mon - Fri between 8am - 4pm.
If you have any questions about this survey, please contact Lily Bose at lily@valleyconservation.org.
