In applying to live in the Sustainability Program house in spring 2024, are you...  *
Have you already lived in the house and/or participated in the Sustainability Program previously? *
Do you understand that living in the house in the spring would require participating in the household community, including community meetings, daily or weekly farm animal and household chores, involvement in managing transportation to and from campus, and other aspects of community life? (If you do understand that but have a conflict or other concern and are still interested in joining the house if possible, please check "Other" and describe.)  *
Interest in Sustainability Program household

Why are you applying to live in the Sustainability Program house for the Spring 2024 semester? How does it further your academic, professional, and/or personal interests? Describe relevant coursework or experience that supports your participation in the living-learning household.

Integration with Campus

How do you plan to integrate your experience at the Sustainability Program house with campus activities including courses, clubs, sports, social gatherings, and other aspects of campus life?

Living-Learning Community

Among the most memorable, rewarding, and challenging aspects of the Sustainability Program is living in a tight-knit community alongside fellow students. Even for just one term, living in community takes work. You’ll spend a significant number of hours each week cooking, cleaning, doing house and farm chores, participating in managing transportation to and from campus, and discussing community issues in addition to classes, homework, and other activities. Living in community also takes tolerance, honesty, optimism, and patience. Describe your experiences with communal living, such as summer camp, growing up with siblings, or in your dormitory? What lessons and strategies have you learned that might be helpful? Are there any challenges you anticipate?

Interdisciplinary Learning and Diversity of Perspectives

The Sustainability Program offers an interdisciplinary living-learning environment, and we welcome all students. We value diversity in experiences and perspectives. If you wish, describe your unique qualities or experiences, and how you can both benefit and be benefitted by participating in a community focused on sustainability.

Fun

What do you like to do for fun, beyond any involvement in campus activities?  Do you have any other hobbies or special interests you'd like to share?

Full Program Involvement

Normally, students would be required to participate in the full-year Sustainability Program (which includes participating in the living/learning community, enrolling in the fall and spring core course, and participating in the half credit farm practicum each term), but we are glad to offer the opportunity to jump in this spring for students to jump in to the living space as an experience on its own. Living in the house this spring neither precludes not requires you to participate in the full program in the future in its new iteration on campus. If you would like, please share whether at this time you think you might be interested in applying to participate in the full program in the future.

Please do not hesitate to contact Interim Sustainability Program Administrative Director Camilla Ammirati with any questions at cammirati@stlawu.edu.

Thanks very much for your interest!
