Report a DECLARED WEED HOTSPOT
With your help, the PHBG can identify locations of declared weed infestations - we want to know about infestations that are concerning or impacting you.
Declared weeds currently on PHBG's radar are: COTTON BUSH, PATERSON'S CURSE, CAPE TULIP, APPLE OF SODOM, ARUM LILY and BLACKBERRY.
THE WEED HOTSPOT REPORTING PROCESS:
Once a hotspot weed report is received, a PHBG officer will conduct an on-ground validation. A letter will be sent to the hotspot landholder that:
1. Informs them of the declared weed infestation on their property.
2. Outlines the best-practise control options.
3. Explains how the PHBG can support the landholder with control.
Managers of the public estate will also be alerted to weed hotspots within their jurisdiction.
The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) currently manage a compliance program and remedial action only for cotton bush. Cotton bush hotspot reports received by the PHBG are re-validated after a period of time following the initial letter to identify if control has occurred. If the infestation remains uncontrolled, the property details may be forwarded to DPIRD for inclusion into their annual cotton bush compliance program.
For the remaining declared weeds listed above, the PHBG works to encourage and build the capacity of landholders to undertake voluntary compliance; and we continue to lobby DPIRD to expand their compliance program from including not only cotton bush, but all weeds declared under the Biosecurity and Agriculture Management (BAM) Act 2007.
