Are you an Asian American, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander high schoolers in the Denver area that is interested in mental health, community building, and leadership opportunities? Join us in the Friends DO Make A Difference Program!
Mental Health is a topic that we rarely talk about, but it is something that impacts every part of our lives. It effects how well we do in school, how we interact with our friends and family, and how we function in our communities. It is always there whether we know it or not. No one is immune to emotional problems and each of us at some point will experience something that causes some level of discomfort. For some, the problems will be minor and will disappear quickly. For others, the issues become increasingly painful and could result in thoughts of suicide. The reality is that failure to talk about a problem does not make the problems go away… often it makes things worse.
Students will engage in a year long program with trainings on mental health, self care, and leadership. In person learning sessions will be paired with fun community building sessions for students to develop friendships with other Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander students across the Denver region. In addition, students will work with college mentors to develop and implement a community-based project in the spring.
