Global Environmental Impacts of Consumption Indicator Survey
We invite you to participate in our feedback survey on the Global Environmental Impacts of Consumption (GEIC) Indicator. This survey aims to gather valuable insights and opinions regarding both the interactive dashboard and the methodology behind the indicator.

The GEIC indicator provides data on the biodiversity loss, water use and deforestation associated with a country/territory’s consumption. The indicator has been included as a component indicator against Target 16 of the CBD’s Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

We have produced a document providing all of the information that you need, which is published here on the CBD website.

Your feedback is crucial in refining and improving the GEIC Indicator to ensure its effectiveness in driving sustainable consumption patterns. We value your expertise and perspectives, which will help shape the future development and implementation of this important tool.

Your response is anonymous, and your participation is entirely voluntary.

Methodology
The indicator is based on data from modelled global trade flows (hybrid MRIO modelling) with a range of environmental data sources that link production to impacts. Results can be broken down by the producer countries/territories in which the impact is taking place, by the commodities driving the impact, and consuming countries/regions.

We are continuing to develop the dashboard and plan for the 2023 Autumn release to have data for 141 consuming countries/territories (representing ~99% of the world’s populations), with others grouped into 20 ‘rest of world’ regions. It will also include data for all deforestation embedded in consumption (not just tropical deforestation).

For more information regarding the methodology, navigate to the technical documentation and underlying data.
