As a participant in the Area 1 Bronze Division, I agree to: *

Arrive at Festival having fully learned my part at the published tempos, and previously worked out bell sharing and trouble spots with my neighbors.

Commit to learning all of the music on my own prior to the start of the Festival. Learning means going beyond the notes –knowing where the musical line is and seeing/hearing the overall picture.

Understand that the overall musical result is more important than the individual

Have the stamina, energy and attention for lengthy rehearsals during the event

Have good rehearsal etiquette and attend all rehearsals. NOTE: Ringers who are also teaching classes may be excused from rehearsals that conflict with their teaching commitments, provided they notify the conductor in advance.

Be prompt & cheerful, and be respectful of the conductor and fellow ringers by limiting talking during the transition times between passages, and or songs.

Have the self-awareness to realize when I am “the problem” (as in playing wrong rhythm, wrong bell, wrong dynamic, not following the director, or causing disruption during rehearsals), and without prompting or comment from anyone, either remedy the problem or sit out that passage.

Understand that ringing is a collaborative effort. All the notes must be rung musically. This may require sharing handbells with neighbors or giving one or more handbells to a different musician for an entire piece.

Option 2: If this will be your first bronze-level event OR you don’t have a recent evaluation letter handy, please complete the remaining questions.

If you chose Option 2, then two individuals who have observed your ringing skills in the past year must complete an evaluation form. Those providing the recommendation should not be related to you. Recommendations from directors and clinicians will carry more weight than those of other ringers.
