This year marks the 128th anniversary of the Battle of Adwa where Ethiopia defeated the invading power of Italy. Adwa Victory Day is a symbol of African resistance against colonial powers.

Emperor/“Atse” Menelik is most revered to this day, for his outstanding leadership in outsmarting and outflanking a European nation – Italy – decisively defeating it on the field of battle, to defend Ethiopia's independence.
