Survey on Living Conditions of the French Community in South Africa
Dear Madam, Dear Sir,

To better understand the structure, distribution and dynamics of the French population in South Africa, the French Association of Entraide du Cap in collaboration with the French Consulates and the French Embassy in South Africa, thanks you for answering this demographic and socio-economic questionnaire.

This questionnaire must be completed by an adult responsible for the household, and only one questionnaire must be completed per household.

As part of this scientific and purely statistical study, we certify the anonymity and confidentiality of your answers (no name, physical address or IP address are collected). The answers will in no way be used for commercial purposes.

Demographer Nancy Stiegler (nstiegler@uwc.ac.za), Professor and Director of the Department of Statistics and Population Studies at the University of the Western Cape, is volunteering to lead this survey with the help of two student demographers.  Following the collection of data, a detailed demographic and socio-economic analysis will be published in the form of statistical tables and an analytical report.

The study focuses on the French population of South Africa. The topics covered include the most aspects of daily life in the country. This survey follows a first study carried out in 2013, which allowed us to better understand the French population residing in South Africa.

This new study will, once again, make it possible to better respond to the problems affecting our community. Indeed, putting into perspective the condition of the French living in South Africa will, for example, allow social associations to reassess rates used for the calculation of aid provided by the French State.

To develop the questionnaire, we consulted several French associations and French partner institutions, including the French Consulate, the Alliance Française, the Chamber of Commerce, the French School and the Entraide du Cap.

The questionnaire consists of 87 questions. We realize that this questionnaire will take about 20 to 30 minutes of your time, and we thank you very much for your valuable collaboration. It is thanks to your detailed answers that this study will be of good quality and useful to all!

Again, this questionnaire must be completed by an adult responsible for the household, and only one questionnaire must be completed per household.

We remain at your disposal if you have any questions: info@entraide.org.za or nstiegler@uwc.ac.za.

Thank you.

Best regards

The French Association of Entraide du Cap and Pr. Stiegler
