Teaching, Learning, Community Use: It’s important that our school buildings support and enhance teaching and learning. We need adequate and appropriate spaces for students and educators. We also need to make certain our school buildings offer the appropriate multifunctional spaces for use my community members.

Proven Track Record: Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has a proven on-time and on-budget track record when designing and building or renovating schools. The funds approved in school construction bond referendums are spent as promised. FCPS utilizes sophisticated student enrollment tracking tools and does not over-build.

Green Initiatives: A new or renovated school is 40 to 50% more energy efficient. Sustainability projects like retention and detention ponds, energy efficient upgrades to doors and windows, increased natural light, and water quantity enhancements are better for the environment and save taxpayers money.

Community Benefits: Community assets improve our quality of life. Like a home renovation, school renovations enhance and protect taxpayer investments. Because FCPS uses all local general contractors when building or renovating schools, the local economy is strengthened. Every dollar spent is re-spent, and much is re-spent in the local economy.
