General intellectual ability: extraordinary performance in a variety of cognitive areas, such as abstract reasoning, logical reasoning, social awareness, memory, nonverbal ability, and the analysis, synthesis, and evaluation of information. Student demonstrates a consistently outstanding mental capacity as compared with children of the same age, experience, and environment. Requires a 9th stanine score (96th percentile or higher) on a full-scale comprehensive test of intellectual ability (IQ test).
Specific academic ability: performs at an exceptionally high level in one or more specific academic areas significantly beyond the age, experience, or environment of one's chronological peers. Requires a 9th stanine score (96th percentile or higher) on a nationally-normed achievement test.
Creative or divergent thinking: performs at an exceptionally high level in creative thinking and divergent approaches to conventional tasks as evidenced by innovate or creative reasoning, advanced insight and imagination, and solving problems in unique ways. Requires work samples and/or screener scores (ie, Torrance)
Leadership: demonstrates exceptionally advanced abilities in social skills and interpersonal qualities such as poise, managerial ability, vision to set goals, organization, etc. Must demonstrate leadership in class, school organization(s), AND community.
Visual/Performing Arts: performs at an exceptionally high level in the visual or performing arts; demonstrates the potential for outstanding aesthetic production, accomplishment, or creativity in visual art, dance, music, or drama. Requires video of performance/ work samples/ portfolio of achievements, etc.

Relevant testing data, videos of performances, work samples, and/or portfolios must be forwarded to the gifted department no later than the first of the month in which the committee meeting takes place: October, February, or May.
