Disability Justice Breakfast Talk | The Drama of Interdependence: Disability Justice and Activism in Family Relationships

Join us for December 2022's Disability Justice Breakfast Talk!

Hosted by: Adam Stevens, MA. RDT and Daniela Gonzalez, BA, Maria Hodermarska, MA, RDT-BCT, CASAC LCAT

Tatty Bowman and her son George have an Instagram account: I_AM_NO_POSTER_BOY, which tells their stories about life as George and as George's mom/family. Their account reads: "I'm George and I have dual diagnosis DS/ASD. My mum talks for me & wants you to know I have a good life. But I'm no Poster Boy for Downs Syndrome. I'm me!"

This beautiful storytelling and powerful activism invites their audience, with an honesty and clarity, into the complex world of telling a story on behalf of someone else (advocacy) in order to increase awareness of the complex challenges of telling one's own story (activism) about living with multiple disabilities and communication challenges. Their Instagram account is an organic form of what we would call drama therapy. Please join us for a discussion about this tender, honest, role play between mother and adult child.
