9th Honors Secondary Math II
Secondary Math II Honors (9120 – semester 1, 9120B – semester 2)
The focus of Mathematics II is on quadratic expressions, equations, and functions; comparing their characteristics and behavior to those of linear and exponential relationships from Mathematics I as organized into 6 critical areas, or units. The need for extending the set of rational numbers arises and real and complex numbers are introduced so that all quadratic equations can be solved. The link between probability and data is explored through conditional probability and counting methods, including their use in making and evaluating decisions. The study of similarity leads to an understanding of right triangle trigonometry and connects to quadratics through Pythagorean relationships. Circles, with their quadratic algebraic representations, round out the course. The Mathematical Practice Standards apply throughout each course and, together with the content standards, prescribe that students experience mathematics as a coherent, useful, and logical subject that makes use of their ability to make sense of problem situations.
Mathematics II Honors covers additional concepts in more depth and at a faster pace then the Mathematics II course.

Review the course descriptions for the 9th Honors Secondary Math II class. This is available on ELA’s webpage and in the description above. A separate application is required for each honors class you intend to take. Complete the student’s portion of this form (hard copy) and then submit to the appropriate teacher, and fill out this form online. Applying for an honors class does not guarantee you will be scheduled in that class. ELA reserves the right to determine the best placement for each student’s success.
The requirements for students to move from a regular math level to an honor's math level are as follows:
Minimum 3.75 GPA in math classes (no more than 1 "B" grade a year)
Score of 85% or better on the end-of-level test (curved according to class)

Latest SRI Score:                                                    *we recommend that students be able to read above a 1300 Lexile level *

Parent should answer this question:  I indicate that I support my student’s interest in requesting Honors classes for next year and understand additional fees may be charged to help cover materials for labs and activities. I also understand that my student will be expected to handle a more challenging workload and I believe him/her to be capable of such. *
