Boston Corbett - Harper's Weekly
The auction has ended.  Please Do Not Submit This Form.

Up for auction is a single page from the May 13, 1865 edition of the illustrated newspaper Harper's Weekly. This page contains an illustration of Boston Corbett, the avenger of President Lincoln. At the bottom of the page is a larger illustration of the planning of John Wilkes Booth's capture by Luther Baker, Lafayette Baker, and Everton Conger. Also included on the page is an article entitled " The Assassin's End" documenting the successful hunt for John Wilkes Booth at the Garrett farm. The back of the page contains newspaper stories unrelated to the assassination of Lincoln.

This original page from Harper's Weekly measures approximately 15.5" tall and 11" wide. The page is 157 years old and has understandable condition issues. There is a horizontal slice through the bottom illustration, but it does not go to the edge on either side. The edges of this newspaper page are cleaner than most (it shows evidence of having been trimmed in the past) but there is still a ripped piece out of the bottom. There is also evidence of water staining on the top and bottom. Please consult the images below carefully to judge its condition. Aside from the horizontal cut which would need mending, this original page is largely frame ready.

This is one of several pages of different Harper's Weekly I'm offering, so please check out the other lots if you are interested. I have three Harper's Weekly pages framed on my wall and they look really nice framed up for display.
