Barbican Stories | second print run | Share your story/stories
Barbican Stories invites current and former Barbican employees, artists and partners from Global Majorities to share their experiences with the Barbican Centre in the second (and final) print run of the book. This edition will be distributed to libraries, public records and archives. The digital version of the updated book will also be made publicly available on the website www.barbicanstories.com. This invitation is open to people from all Global Majorities + people with lived experience of racism, to explore discrimination along the vectors of race, gender, sexuality, class, faith, socioeconomic background, disability, geography and nationality.

Some things to consider before sharing your story:

* All contributions will be made anonymous in the book. These stories are framed as a reflection of a system that isn’t working in the same way for everyone, with an emphasis on the system - so please do not name individuals in your story or specify the name of the department.

* We don't want this to be an experience of reliving trauma for anyone involved, so please contribute only if you find personal use in the act of sharing your story. Please only share what you want to share, in a way that gains strength in the collective.

* We will publish your submissions word-for-word unless there are descriptions that don't protect the identity of the characters in the story.

* All contact details below will be strictly kept private and deleted after the publication of the second edition. If you choose, you will receive updates on the printing process via email.

* We want to extend this invitation to all People of the Global Majority + people with lived experience of racism whose experiences fall within the parameters set out above. We apologise that we were not able to reach out to everyone for the first publication of the book. There has never been a central location for all People of the Global Majority and we had to do this work quietly and through word of mouth. If you know someone who might want to know about this second call out, please send them this link!

About Barbican Stories
Barbican Stories is a collection of firsthand and witnessed accounts of racism and discrimination at the Barbican Centre. The book is a vessel that ensures that experiences which have typically been suppressed, ignored and isolated from each other are written into history by the very people who have experienced it firsthand. It is a testament, a radical archiving object, and a collective complaint. Barbican Stories presents a narrative of what has happened and continues to happen not just at the Barbican, but across the arts sector and in society.

There are currently nearly 100 stories in the collection. Read the book at https://issuu.com/barbicanstories/docs/barbican_stories_digital_pdf_june_2021
