South Licking Watershed Conservancy District Project Description:
The South Licking Watershed Conservancy District (District) has procured a Partners in Watershed Management grant from MWCD for the purpose of completing a Flood Damage Reduction Planning Study, This study will evaluate and identify measures for channel protection and maintenance, and specific measures for flood damage reduction to protect homes, businesses and public infrastructure, including roadways. The study area is the portion of the South Fork Licking River watershed within District boundaries, which includes land within Licking, Fairfield, and Perry Counties. The planning study and findings will serve as the basis for updating the Official Plan for the SLWCD, which is essential to the District being able to implement improvements throughout the watershed.
Project Goals:
•
Conduct meetings with watershed stakeholder to gather and disseminate information.
•
Prepare detailed modeling of the South Fork Licking River watershed to evaluate alternative flood damage reduction measures.
•
Develop a comprehensive plan for removal of channel debris and the long-term maintenance of waterways.
•
Determine the flood damage reduction benefits and the project costs of recommended improvements.
Project Outcome: The Flood Damage Reduction Planning Study will identify measures and funding requirements pertaining to flood damage reduction and channel protection for the South Fork Licking River watershed and will support an update to the District’s Official Plan.
