WHO WE ARE:
Women and Youth Supporting Each Other (WYSE) is a year-long, curriculum-based mentorship program that partners UCLA undergraduate student mentors with middle school student mentees. Each mentor is paired with one middle school mentee for the entire academic year. Once a week, mentors travel to their middle school sites to host a group session for mentees on topics such as identity, healthy relationships, mental health, and sex education.

GENDER INCLUSIVITY:
WYSE, as a historically women’s organization, invites anyone who personally identifies as a woman or with the experience of womanhood in any way* to apply to be a mentor! We value having a wide spectrum of identities within our mentor group and affirm each other’s identities by using preferred pronouns.

*Basically, as long you’re not a cisgender man, you’re welcome here :)

WYSE General Info:
WYSE runs for the academic year, beginning in the first weeks of Fall Quarter and ending the last week of Spring Quarter. On-site sessions are either on Wednesdays from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm or Thursdays from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm. Mentors must attend one on-site session per week and stick with the same site for the duration of the school year. Additionally, mentors are required to attend weekly reflection meetings on Tuesdays from 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm. Mentors and mentees are paired together early Fall Quarter, and once paired, will have the whole year to bond. A field trip will also be taking place once per quarter.

Transportation is provided free of cost and is wheelchair accessible.

In order to form a more cooperative and cohesive group of mentors, we will have quarterly training workshops as well as bonding events throughout the year to help build and strengthen relationships among mentors. In addition to enriching mentees’ experiences, WYSE aims to help our mentors by aiding in the development of leadership, communication, and teamwork skills as well as life-long networks and friendships.

*IF YOU ARE NOT AVAILABLE DURING THE SITE OR REFLECTION MEETING TIMES LISTED ABOVE, YOU CAN STILL APPLY. JUST NOTIFY US AND WE ARE HAPPY TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS.*
