When children enter foster care, they may miss out on family gatherings, playing ball with their uncle, reading stories with their aunt, learning the "secret recipe" for apple pie with their grandmom, learning how to catch "the largest fish you've ever seen" with their grandpa. They can miss out on a lot of important things.
When children enter foster or kinship care, families can go through stages of shock, grief, blame, and anger. The entire process can be overwhelming. Families may respond as one unit, or they may break apart, with one or two people swooping in, and the rest, unsure what to do at this stage. Just in shock, really.
We want aunts, uncles, grandparents, steps, and close family members to know how important they are.
Please fill out this form if you or someone in the family could use a 3-part, interactive online training to work through the shock of what happened, think through how to respond, and get back to just being family.
