Unruly Women Backpacking Adventure Scholarship Application
The Unruly Women Scholarship Fund helps to provide resources and opportunities for individuals who identify as women (trans-women included of course), femme and non-binary to attend and participate at our various educational adventure programs to help further develop their confidence and wilderness skills.

This year, the scholarship has the ability to assist in registration fees, in hopes to expand access to those who might not be able to attend otherwise due to financial reasons. Unruly Women prioritizes support for individuals who have been historically excluded and underrepresented in outdoor spaces.

This year, the scholarship is $500 towards your backpacking retreat. There is no travel stipend this year, due to stretching the scholarship fund in hopes to be able to assist more people.

Please keep in mind that for all Unruly Women backpacking adventures....

  • All individuals must be able to hike roughly 2-10 miles with a 40# backpack over varying terrain - distance and terrain dependent upon adventure location (please go to backpacking retreat page for dates and difficulty levels).
  • All individuals are responsible for their own transportation - including all travel to and from the trailhead.
  • All individuals must have their own gear for the retreats - whether rented or otherwise - full gear list provided prior to retreat. As of 2024, I will be able to borrow you the following gear (so you don't need to rent) : backpack, tent, trekking poles.
  • All individuals are required to bring their own food - (dry meals are encouraged - requiring boil to rehydrate method, and/or simple lightweight foods (to help keep the weight of the backpack lower) full list of recommendations provided prior to retreat. As of 2024, thanks to Song, I have some backpacking meals to give for the retreat(s) - - there are various choices of meals available.
  • The gear that Unruly Women does provide for each individual to use (or share) if needed during the retreats: backpacking backpacks, tent, bear bag and paracord, water filtration systems, jet boil for boiling water, matches/lighter, aero-press, coffee/teas, cat-hole shovel, med-kit (not including epi-pen or prescription medication or life saving/emergency medication), bear spray, GPS device with emergency service, multi-tool.
