SSSSPOTY 2023 Application Form
Thank you for applying for the 2023 Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year competition (aka SSSSPOTY).

The Final of the SSSSPOTY 2023 competition will be held on the afternoon of Sunday 11th June in the Sondheim Theatre in London's West End (currently home to Les Misérables).

Auditions will be held in two stages. For the first stage, you will be asked to submit a video application, in which you must sing a song with music and/or lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Successful applicants will then be invited forward to the second stage, which will be an audition in person with Edward Seckerson (Chair of the Judges) and Nigel Lilley (MD) in a Central London location on 23rd April.

Please pay close attention to the instructions that follow, and complete this form. We cannot be held responsible for applications that do not conform to these requirements:

--Applicants must be 18 years of age by 10 June 2023.

--Please only submit an application if you know you will be available during the day on Saturday 10 June for a rehearsal and all day on Sunday 11 June 2023 for the Finals. If your circumstances change after you've submitted the video, let us know by emailing sondheimsociety@sondheim.org

--You may make only one application; if you submit multiple applications, only the last one posted before the deadline will be accepted.

--The deadline for applications is 11 pm on Sunday 26th March 2023. Any submissions received after this time will not be accepted and applications may note be returned.

--You are required to sing ONE SONG with music and/or lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. If you are successful and selected as one of the 12 Finalists, you will also be expected to sing a new work, which you will be asked to select from the portfolio of New UK Musicals - https://www.newukmusicals.co.uk/

--Video-record yourself performing your Sondheim song, clearly and in good light, and ideally using a tripod or other device to steady the camera/device. You should perform with a piano accompaniment or else a recorded backing track. Please ensure that the recording, and particularly the audio, is as clear as possible, so that it enhances your performance, rather than detracting from it.

--Please record at minimum resolution of 720p, and using one of the following file formats: MP4, WMV, MOV or MPG.

--Clearly state your name, your college and your song choice at the BEGINNING of the video.

--Title the video file with your full name and college as follows:

FirstnameSecondname_College, e.g. CharlesKringas_ArtsEd

--Send your video via the Society's WeTransfer account: https://sondheimsociety.wetransfer.com/

--Those that make it through this first round of video auditions will be invited to audition in person with the Chair of the Judges and the Musical Director, in a Central London location. This audition will be performed with a piano accompaniment, and you may bring your pianist or use one chosen by the Society. The date for this is Sunday 23rd April 2023. Further instructions will be sent if you are successful. Those that are not taken forward to the next stage will be informed.

--If you are chosen to participate in the Finals on 11th June, we will inform you by no later than Monday 1st MAY.
