Board of Trustees Description
Being a member of the Board of Trustees is an important leadership role in the congregation. The board's utmost duty is to protect the UUCC’s best interests through decisions made and work done on its behalf. Ours is a working board. Board Members are active participants in the work of the congregation, albeit in different ways.
  • Board Members attend monthly board meetings at 7 pm on the Fourth Tuesday of the month. These are mostly held on zoom. Often the November and December meetings are combined and held shortly after Thanksgiving. Attendance at meetings is expected to be a priority for board members.

  • In addition to board meetings, Board members should plan to attend the annual meeting, congregational meetings, and other congregation-wide activities.

  • Board members are appointed as board liaisons to at least one key committee or task force. How that works will differ by board member & committee. Minimally the board member will attend committee meetings or check in with the committee chair at least monthly.

  • Board members may be called upon to work in a board sub-team to draft policies, responses, or other board work best done in a small group.

  • It is hoped that Board Members will bring their talents, skills, and passions to the work of the board. Board members should seriously consider accepting a leadership role or taking on some tasks for the board - if not me, then who?

  • Board members should be visible and ready to listen to congregant feedback wherever that may come from; bringing it back to the board or board leadership in a timely fashion.

  • Service Terms:

  • 3 year terms as elected (affirmed) in a congregational vote at the Annual Meeting.  Three members join each year, resulting in 9 members, plus the past president, for a total of 10 Board members.

Leadership Development Committee (LDC) Description

The Leadership Development Committee (LDC) is a free standing committee of UUCC with the following responsibilities:

    • Meet with prospective Trustees and recommend the slate of candidates for election and re-election to the Board and Leadership Development Committee;

    • Implement recommendations of the Board regarding the overall composition of the Board to ensure members represent diverse viewpoints and skillsets;

    • Consult with committee chairs regarding potential non-board committee members that have potential to serve in leadership roles;

    • Develop and implement process for, and conduct, periodic leadership training for Members of the Congregation;

    • Support congregation Members’ access to the UUCC General Assembly Scholarship Fund; and

    • In December each year, begin and continue to publicize how to participate in UUA General Assembly and the availability of Scholarship funding

Service Terms:
